Virtues of Da’wah

1.      Da'wah is the Best of Speech

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness, and says 'I am of those who bow in Islam'" (41:33)

2.      It is the way of the Prophets

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“We sent aforetime our messengers with Clear Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of Right and Wrong), that men may stand forth in justice..” (57:25)

“And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allâh (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Tâghût(all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Tâghût besides Allâh)." Then of them were some whom Allâh guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).” (16:36)

3.      It is the way of the Prophet (SAW) and those who follow him.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "This is my way; I invite unto Allâh (i.e. to the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allâh i.e to the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism with sure knowledge). And Glorified and Exalted is Allâh (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh; those who worship others along with Allâh or set up rivals or partners to Allâh)." (12:108)

This is my way: It means Da’wah or Islam

4.      There is great Reward in it.

“Verily the one who guides(someone) to good, is like the one who does it (in reward)” (Saheeh Al Tirmidhi)

“For Allah to guide one person through you is better for you than the red camels.” (Bukhari)

Commentary: "Better for you than red camels'' is an allegory for everything that is better than anything else. Red camels used to be precious in Arabia, and their reference here is to highlight the value of guidance. Thus, this Hadith brings into prominence the importance of calling people towards Allah. But before calling others to the path of Allah, one must himself know it, and for this purpose, the knowledge of the Qur'an and Hadith is essential because one cannot provide any guidance in this respect without this knowledge.

5.      It is one of the reasons why we were favored over other nations.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith it were best for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors.” (3:110)

6.      It is also a sign that Tawheed is complete and Iman is strong in the heart: You would not call others to something unless you know it and have no doubt in it. So, Da’wah is part of Tawheed. One of the meanings of Shahadah is to inform others.

7.      It strengthens Iman: Many people make the mistake of waiting for their Iman to increase before they go and cal people to Allah. The truth is, giving da’wah is itself an action that increases Iman.

    assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulla

I’m just an ordinary, and so with humility I beg to differ the point number 5 of this article:"It is one of the reasons why we were favoured over other nations."

I believe the word ‘WE’ has a wrong connotation.

In surath Al Imran, Allah talks a lot about the chara of the People of the Book. There are so many so many ayaths Allah addressing ‘O believers’ from the People of the Book and rejecters from the People of the Book. Allah says ,some believe and they reject their faith later from the People of the Book.

Allah warns those who reject faith, after they have accepted it ,that their repentance will never be accepted even if they ransom earth full of gold.

The context, or the revelation environment of this ayath 3:110 is based on this.

Allah addressed this 3:110 to all believers, that ‘you are the best of people evolved for mankind.’ So the word ‘WE’ is misnomer. It should be replaced by ‘believers’.

I also have some reservation about point no 6:
"It is also a sign that Tawheed is complete and Iman is strong in the heart: You would not call others to something unless you know it and have no doubt in it. So, Da’wah is part of Tawheed. One of the meanings of Shahadah is to inform others."

First of all, we should understand that Da’wah is not a compulsory part on all Muslims ,it is not a part of our shahadah.
In surah Al Imran ayath number 104 Allah clearly says ‘let there arise a band of people inviting to all that is good , enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong;they are the ones who attain felicity.’
Remember the word ‘a band of people.’
Also, it is not the condition of Allah that Daee( the caller) should know "it". There is nobody in this earth who has known "it".The only condition Allah says is invite people to good(Allah has given us which is good), forbid what is wrong( Allah has taught us what is wrong).

    I have some personal memories.
I was fortunate to travel in rural Kerala some months in the path of Da’wah some years back.
We visit houses and say what we know and speak the greatness of Allah . just what we know.

And we will invite people to join us. some may join.We were all average Muslims. That time I was working in govt bank in India and I was eating Riba money(interest) and feeding my family with the amount of Riba. I was witnessing Riba transaction which Allah’s prophet has cursed. I was accounting Riba transaction. But Allah alhamdulillah gave me a chance to get out of that. I had nothing at home to provide my family . But Allah blessed me with the courage. And this courage I got from the Da’wah I made in rural Kerala.

This I speak from my heart like I speak to my dearest friends.Take things in the nice way.

If there are some errors I ask the forgiveness.
    Let Allah guide us .

    Azeez Calgary

  4. Walaikum Assalam Brother Azeez.

    JazakAllahu Khairan for your comment.

May Allah help all those who are dealing with Riba to come out it as soon possible and to have courage to face the sitaution.

Regarding what you told, about Da’wah not compulsory on all Muslims, Kindly read the next part because the same thing is mentioned there too.

  5. O J DEEN says:

    Assalamu Aliekum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu !,

    Know
that the life of this world
    is only play and amusement,
pomp and mutual boasting among you,
    and rivalry in respect
    of wealth and children,
as the likeness of vegetation after rain,
    thereof the growth
    is pleasing to the tiller;
    afterwards it dries up
    and you see it turning yellow;
    then it becomes straw.

    But in the Hereafter
    (there is) a severe torment
    (for the disbelievers, evil-doers),
    and (there is) Forgiveness
    from Allah and (His)
    Good Pleasure
    (for the believers, good-doers),
whereas the life of this world
    is only a deceiving enjoyment.

    [Al Quran 57:20]
