Concerning the Attribute by which one gets the relish of Iman

It is reported on the authority of Anas that the Prophet of Allaah (may peace and blessings be upon him ) said: There are three qualities for which anyone who is characterised by them will relish the sweetness of faith:

  1. he to whom Allaah and His Messenger are dearer than all else;
  2. he who loves a man for Allaah's sake alone;
  3. and he who has as great an abhorrence of returning to unbelief after Allaah has rescued him from it as he has of being cast into Hell. (Muslim, 67)

Lessons to Learn from this Hadith

Abhorrence means 'Hate coupled with disgust'.

Iman is that which is rooted in the hearts and which is attested by actions. The fruit of Iman (Faith) will be expressed in our actions. Iman is not merely a statement. It involves experiencing it.

E.g. Not having tasted Iman is just like a man talking for years about the sweetness of honey, but he has not tasted it.
