The Fourth Supplication

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘asbahtu ‘ush-hiduka wa ‘ush-hidu hamalata ‘arshika, wa malaa’ikataka wajamee’a khalqika, ‘annaka ‘Antallaahu laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa ‘Anta wahdaka laa shareeka laka, wa ‘anna Muhammadan ‘abduka wa Rasooluka.

O Allah , I have entered a new morning 1 and call upon You and upon the bearers of Your Throne , upon Your angels and all creation to bear witness that surely You are Allah , there is none worthy of worship but You alone , You have no partners, and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger . (Recite four times in Arabic.)

1 When you say this in the evening you should say, Allaahumma ‘innee ‘amsaytu. . . .: “O Allah, I have ended another day…”

Status of this Supplication: Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: ” “Allah will spare whoever says this four times in the morning or evening from the fire of Hell, “ Abu Dawud.

Meaning and Beauty: Who are the carriers of the throne?

The Carriers of the Throne in the Qur’an

“Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], “Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.” (Ghafir:7)

“And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].” (Al Haqqa:17)

The Carriers of the Throne in the Sunnah

Jabir Ibn Abdullah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “I have been given permission to speak about one of the angels of Allah who carry the Throne. The distance between his ear lobes and his shoulders is equivalent to a seven hundred year journey.” (Abu Dawood)

Huge Size

The Prophet (SAW) said about Jibreel: “I saw Jibreel descending from heaven, and his great size filled the space between the heaven and the earth.” (Muslim)

What is fascinating about this supplication?

  • It calls on Allah and His angels to bear witness to His oneness.
  • Invoking Allah as witness provides the most emphatic way of your belief in this statement.
  • You do not call on Allah to witness in support of your own statement unless you are absolutely certain that what you say is true.
