It’s all about the Intention

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Many a one who fasts obtains nothing from his fasting but thirst, and many a one who prays during the night obtains nothing from his night prayers but wakefulness.” (Al-Tirmidhi, 2014)

  1. May Allah forgive us all. Ameen.

  2. subhanAllah….sis a bad intention if made (may Allah protect us from it) will be recorded as a bad deed in our record…am i correct as i read from one article in this site…same applies to a good intention and its recording in our record…is there any slight difference between former and latter one or not…in its record being done..

  3. Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas (r.a.) reported: ‘The Messenger of Allah (saws) said that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, Said: "He who intends to do a good deed but he does not do it, then Allah records it for him as a full good deed, but if he carries out his intention, then Allah the Exalted, writes it down for him as from ten to seven hundred folds, and even more. But if he intends to do an evil act and has not done it, then Allah writes it down with Him as a full good deed, but if he intends it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed"’ (Bukhari and Muslim)

  7. I don’t understand this quote that came along it
A believer catches his intention changing forty times a day, but a hypocrite remains on the same intention for forty years. – Shaikh Yasir Qadhi
    JazakAllahu khaira

  8. sister, being a Muslim, we are very cautious about our actions and we do our best to please Allah. We need to make the right intention that we are doing an act purely to please Allah.

So this quote states that a believer changes his intention 40 times a day meaning, we are so cautious about our intention that we keep renewing it from time to time to make sure we do a particular deed only to please Allah and not be seen of others or any other reason.

e.g. when we give charity and if somebody is there, we renew our intention to make sure we are doing it to please Allah and not to show people about it.

  9. Jazak Allah khair Sister for the explanation!
