I’tikaf

Narrated ‘Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) The Prophet used to practice Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan till he died and then his wives used to practice Itikaf after him. (Bukhari, 1905)

  1. What should one do if one is asked to do some thing at work that he feels is contrary to teachings of islam?
The prophet SAAS sai; A human must not be obeyed if that involved disobedience to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted. Indeed, obedience only applies in the case os righteous deeds. Here is a person who is voluntarily involved himslef in righteous act of spreading Allah’s messages. Will not Allah betow him the choicest blessings.
    Jazakallah keep it up.

  2. arjuman khan says:

    SUBHAN ALLAH.

  3. Subhan Allah.

  4. Alhamdulillah I got the chance to practice I’tikaf for 4 odd nights in the masjid last year during Ramadan.

All I have to say is, it was a wonderful experience. A beautiful feeling in the environment of the Masjid.

I did not get tired at all Subhan Allah!. I did not even sleep for a minute because I feared I might miss on the rewards and never did I feel sleepy. I did not strain myself to stay awake but it was very easy, Alhamdulillah.

Insha Allah I am eagerly waiting to go for I’tikaf this year also.

For those who cannot practice I’tikaf, do not stop yourself from waking up at night and spend hours in the worship of Allah.

May Allah accept all our good deeds and May Allah forgive us our sins. Ameen

  5. can a woman take part in itikaf?

  6. Alhamdulillah, Yes sister women can take part in I’tikaf.

“And do not have sexual relations with them (your wives) while you are in I‘tikaaf (i.e. confining oneself in a mosque for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities) in the mosques”

    [al-Baqarah 2:187]

Men and women are equal in this regard.

    Ibn Qudaamah said in al-Mughni:

A woman has the right to observe i‘tikaaf in any mosque, and that is not subject to the condition that it be a mosque where prayers are performed in congregation, because that is not obligatory upon her. This was the view of al-Shaafa’i.

She does not have the right to observe i’tikaaf in her house, because Allaah says “while you are in I‘tikaaf (i.e. confining oneself in a mosque for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities) in the mosques”, and because the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked him for permission to observe i’tikaaf in the mosque, and he gave them permission.

    Al-Nawawi said in al-Majmoo’ (6/480):

It is not correct for a man or a woman to observe i’tikaaf anywhere except in the mosque.

This is the view favoured by Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen in al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 6/513

    And Allaah knows best.
