Concerning the Comprehensive Attributes in Islam
It is narrated on the authority of Sufyan b. 'Abdulla al-Thaqafi that he said: I asked the Messenger of Allaah to tell me about Islam a thing which might dispense with the necessity of my asking anybody after you. In the hadith of Abu Usama the (words) are: other than you. He (the Prophet) remarked: Say I affirm my faith in Allaah and then remain steadfast to it. (Muslim, 62)
Lessons to Learn from this Hadith
Steadfastness is a very crucial concept in Islam. Steadfastness means being consistent in the good deeds we are doing.
Prophet Mohammed (SAW) used to be consistent in all the deeds He used to do.
E.g. If you are a miser and you want to be generous, then you need to do the deeds of a generous man. But you need to be generous not only for a day, but need to be generous continuously so that you can become a generous person.
Similarly, if we want to be steadfast in whatever good we are doing, then we should do the deeds consistently.
Allah says in the Qur'an:
In the case of those who say "Our Lord is Allah", and further, stand straight and steadfast, the angels descend on them (from time to time): "Fear ye not!" (they suggest) "Nor grieve! but receive the Glad Tidings of the Garden (of Bliss), the which ye were promised!" (41:30)
Therefore stand firm (in the straight path) as thou art commanded― thou and those who with thee turn (unto Allah); and transgress not (from the Path): for He seeth well all that ye do. " (11:112)
Total surrender to Allah is being Steadfast
We cannot be 100% perfect, but we should try our level best to be steadfast in whatever actions we do.
The highest level of spirituality is being Steadfast.
The Sahabas used to always ask Prophet Mohammed (SAW), questions relating to how to make their life better to make their path to Jannah easy. They used to not ask questions like "Can we take a Mortgage". Their only focus was Hereafter and was not highly concerned about the worldly life.
