Mother
Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man said. “Who is next?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man further said, “Who is next?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man asked for the fourth time, “Who is next?” The Prophet said, “Your father.” (Bukhari, 5586)
Subhan Allah hadiths like this make me wonder how much do I really do for my parents especially my mother when she has done all this for me, even though she is not a Muslim
I have just mentioned few of the things that they have done mainly because they have gone out of their way not only to accept my changes but to implement it in their lives too something they didn’t or don’t have to do
– my parents supported me when my grandmother (from my mothers side) was upset with me and refused to talk or eat in my house, my mother spoke to her in a calm voice saying we know and have accepted her, my grandmother was fine with me the next day like nothing had happened
– she has been taking interest in things I do, will even ask about my class that I go for (tajweed, Arabic and tafseer class) I also practice some of my Arabic vocabs with my mom, at times she will ask me what it means so she can learn it, my dad would even drop me to these classes knowing very well what it is for
– they don’t disturb me when I pray or am busy with the Quran
– my mom and my bro each accepted books I gave them with a smile, btw my dad drives me to those Islamic stores and once even paid for few things when I fell short of cash, he inquisitively will even ask the store owner and myself about certain things, like he asked me one day the miswak I bought
– my dad has even been ok with dropping me to the masjid when I ask him to do so
– my mom prepares only halal food at home before it was only for me now everyone, makes me feel really nice as to the extent she is going to make me feel at home, there are times when they will buy food from out but she will go and buy something else just for me and will tell me even before I ask her whether its ok for me to eat or not
– during Ramadan my mom would prepare suhoor for me subhan Allah
– if my family has been invited to someones house for dinner my mom will tell them that I eat only halal and if they make fish then that would be better (I overheard her on the phone- she didn’t even know I was around)
Allah has made this easy on me alhumdullah … I make duaa that I can do as much as I can for all they have done for me .. Remembering Hadiths like this and the verses about honouring parents, irrespective whether they are Muslim or not
May Allah guide them to the right path Ameen
This is a very important hadith it is a strong proof that Islam respects women and gives her rights that no other religion ever gave her.
MashaAllah Caroline you really do have very understanding parents. This is where our charecter is tested when we accept and respect each others differences open heartedly with a smile.I also love my parents a lot whatever I am today I am because of them .
