Which he loves for himself
It is attested on the authority of Anas b. Malik that the Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) observed: “one amongst you believes (truly) till one likes for his brother or for his neighbour that which he loves for himself.” (Muslim,72)
This hadith can be applied for us specially when we buy gifts.
We should never ever buy a gift for somebody else which we ourself do not like.
The cost is not important, but what is important is, would we buy the same thing for ourself?
So whenever we buy gifts, etc make sure we buy something what we ourself would buy for our own use.
Never buy a gift just for the sake of buying it. Rather buy it for the sake of Pleasing Allah. Because giving gifts increases love.
shayistha pointed out a very important aspect of this hadith and there is another aspect of this hadith that i once read in the websit http://www.islamtoday.com…where it indicated this point:
the behavior that i prefer people should have towards me the same i should prefer for my muslim brother or sister while interacting with him or her.
if i like people not to taunt me the same should be applied if i have any intention to taunt my muslim brother in a gathering etc.
if at times i like people to initiate greetings the same should be apllied while meeting my muslime brother.
hope i explained my point… 🙂
Subhan Allah…thats another good point to think about.
Yes if we expect someone to be good to us, we have to be good to them
and even if someone is not good to us, we need to be good to them, because if we behave in the same fashion as they do, then what is the differene between ‘them’ and ‘us’ in the eyes of Allah??
So to be a better person in front of Allah, we need to let go our ‘ego’ and be good/kind to even those people who do not reciprocate the same.
