When Satan hears Azan and Iqama

AbuHuraira reported the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: When Satan hears the call to prayer, he turns back and breaks the wind so as not to bear the call being made, but when the call is finished he turns round and distracts (the minds of those who pray), and when he bears the iqama he again runs away so as not to hear its voice and when it subsides, he comes back and distracts (the minds of those who stand for prayer). (Muslim, 753)

  1. Salam alaykum,

I’ve got problems while praying. My mind is distracted and I thought is because Arabic is not my native language but now I can see that was completely wrong.

  2. Walaiakum Assalam sister..

I think this problem exits with each one of us. But we need to keep trying to fight satan so that we can concentrate better, insha ALlah..

Here are few articles, insha ALlah it might help:

  3. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, "When anyone of you stands for the prayers, Satan comes and puts him in doubts till he forgets how many Rakat he has prayed. So if this happens to anyone of you, he should perform two prostrations of sahu while sitting. (Bukhari, 1162)

  4. Narrated ‘Aisha: I asked the Prophet about one’s looking here and there during the prayer. He replied, "It is what Satan steals from the prayer of any one of you." (Bukhari, 3069)

  5. Narrated ‘Aisha: I asked the Prophet about one’s looking here and there during the prayer. He replied, "It is what Satan steals from the prayer of any one of you." (Bukhari, 3069)

  6. jazakiAllah khair sis shayista for further explanation…yes we need to fight against the distractions that satan disposes and one way to do so is that look at your left shoulder side and recite "audhu billahi minash shayta nirrajeem" and then spit dryly three times…sorry for not posting the exact report but its part of an authentic hadith

  7. In a hadîth related by Abu Qatâdah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “A good dream is from Allah and the bad one from Satan. If any of you sees what he dislikes, he should spit on his left side three times and seek refuge from Allah against its evil then it will not hurt him.” [Sahîh Muslim]

The point which helps me most in concerntrating in my prayers is,by thinking before i stand, as this is my last namaz to my lord.
