Spending on Widow and Destitute
Abu Huraira reported that Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: One who makes efforts (for earning to be spent) on a widow and the destitute is like a striver in the cause of Allaah, and I think he also said: He is like one who constantly stands for prayer and observes fast without breaking it. (Bukhari, 107)
sister kindly tell me if my father doesnot like giving charity to ones knocking your door all the time…although he does give charity to other relative whom he knows…now the problem is when the poor kids and other healthy people knocks the door all the time begging either for money or water or food..if i give a some money from my father’s income then beggers quantity will increase in number knocking our door, from which my father really gets irritated to…now if i ask them to go i really don’t feel good..then i remember that muslim should cease an opportunity to do good as it comes…now i don’t know either to ask them to go or give them a bit what they are asking for…it’s not that my father doesnot like charity but he is disturbed from all the time ringing of doorbell by these beggers and mostly he is the one who goes to see who is ringing the bell and am not all the time available to see who is the at the door neither am i allowed that frequently to check whoes their….then ultimately is it fine to ask all the beggers not to come for anything…sorry for such a confusing question
Sadaqah is always encouraged in Islam. Let it be giving money, helping someone physically or even a smile, any such thing done for the sake of Allah is Charity. However at the same time you can see Islam discouraging beggars. Begging takes their self respect away and makes them feel inferior in the society, leading to disabling themselves from fighting back the poverty they are in. We should not encourage beggars, rather if it’s possible in a larger level to collect a fund from everyone and help them enable to stand on their own feets by starting a business for them, that’s what we need to look at.
At a personal level, if you find any organization who does that, let’s channel our charity through so that we can help at least few person to stop begging. When we give random charity to beggars, they are basically getting encouraged to continue begging.
Hope this helps.
That is what exactly happens in my place in india. It is peak during ramadhan.Actually, (80-90%)of the people, some come in the guise of the muslims, most of them are name sake muslims, only in their attire.I also feel irritated not for disturbing us by ringing the call bell, but they are not the rigth people to get the charity,I suppose.Even if we offer them job, they are not interested because they reach 500-600 houses each day during ramadhan, and generate good sum.Even there is a mafiya behind this, I heard some one saying.
