The Sixth Supplication: “O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, preserve for me my hearing. O Allah, preserve for me my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You. O Allah , I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave . There is none worthy of worship but You.”
Meaning and Beauty
“O Allah, make me healthy in my body”
Islam and Sickness: Good health could be a veil between the human being and his Lord. Those who are healthy do not look for Allah and do not see Him, but as soon as pain afflicts them, they cry out: “O Allah, O Allah” calling out and surrendering to Him.
Poor health could be a cure and a remedy for their spiritual illnesses.
From this perspective, illness could be a great blessing.
After all, the true believer is always a winner if he/she behaves in the right manner.
Great hadith: “The matter of the believer is amazing, for nothing Allah decrees for him, but it is better for him. And this is only for the believer. If he is given prosperity, he thanks Allah for it, and this is better for him. If a harm befalls him, he is patient and this is better for him. ” (Muslim)
Why did Allah create Illness and Suffering?
Opposites: So good health and prosperity might appear through its opposite. Those who are blessed with good health will be grateful and their status is elevated.
Test: This life is a test. In fact, the believers will not make it safely to jannah until they are tested.
Patience: To increase the patient and true believers in guidance and reward.
Sayings of the Prophet (SAW) regarding plentiful rewards of the sick person.
Umm Al Alaa (RA) said: Allah’s Messenger (SAW) visited me while I was sick. He said, “Be glad, Umm Al Alaa’, for Allah removes the sins of a Muslim for his illness as fire removed the dross off gold and silver.” (Abu Dawud)
“No disease, nor fatigue, nor hurt, nor sorrow, nor distress befalls a Muslim except that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” (Muslim)
“There is nothing, in the form of a trouble or calamity that comes to a believer even if it is the pricking of a thorn, except that Allah will expiate his sins for that.” (Bukhari/Muslim)
Can we ask Allah to grant us illness? No! There is no du’a in which Prophet (SAW) is asking for illness
Allah loves us, so if a small pain we go through, Allah wants to forgive us.
