Part 12 (f): The Sixth Supplication- The Divine Protection
Read the previous Part 12 (e): The Sixth Supplication (Minor Kufr)
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty…”
Why did the Messenger of Allah seek refuge in Allah from poverty?
Poverty could be the cause of major problems:
- Poverty might lead someone to belittle the bounties of Allah.
- It might cause people to neglect their Islamic duties for the sake of achieving financial security.
- It might force people to ask for loans and when they are unable to pay them back, they start lying and breaking promises, thus ruining their mutual relations with their fellow brothers and sisters.
Does Islam advocate or promote poverty?
- Islam teaches that people should be trying their best to overcome poverty, so they can support themselves, their families, and be among theose who give compares to those who take.
- Hadith: “The upper hand is better than the lower hand.” (Bukhari)
What is the Source of Confusion?
Our false interpretations.
Let’s examine this hadith: “The poor people among Muslims will enter paradise forty years before the rich.” (Muslim)
Does it mean that the poor have always a better status than the rich?
Think about it:)
Read the next Part 13: The Seventh Supplication,
I fully agree with the view that Islam does not promote its followers to live in poverty. However, the need for treating the poor with due respect is also stressed upon, hence the ahadees supporting poverty, as this situation is also from Allah.
