Crying out of the Fear of Allah

Allah says in the Qur'an:

"And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses." (5:83)

"For, believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a tremor in their hearts, and when they hear His signs rehearsed, find their faith strengthened, and put (all) their trust in their Lord."(8:2)

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (These seven persons are) a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood), a man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation), two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only, a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah, a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity), and a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears." (Bukhari, 630)

Ibn 'Abbas (ra) has said: I have heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say: "Two eyes will not be touched by the Hell fire, one is that eye which has shed tears in the fear of Allah and second that eye which stayed awake guarding in the path of Allah. (Tirmidhi)

Types of Weeping

  1. Mercy: Mother crying having mercy for her child.
  2. Fear: Crying out of fear.
  3. Love: When we love someone so much, it brings tears into our eyes.
  4. Joy: Meeting our loved ones and tears flow.
  5. Pain: Something that hurts, makes us cry.
  6. Hypocrisy: Just crying to show people that we fear Allah.
  7. Crying of Consensus: We see our mother cry and we just cry along with her even without knowing the reason as to why she is crying.

How to Cry for the Fear of Allah

  1. Reading Qur'an and pondering over its meaning:

    Allah says in the Qur'an:

Say: "Whether ye believe in it or not, it is true that those who were given knowledge beforehand, when it is recited to them, fall down on their faces in humble prostration" (17:107)

  2. Knowing the reward of weeping when alone: Being under the Shade of Allah.
  3. Think about our past sins and cry: If we don't cry, we don't have a healthy heart. A person who cries out of fear of Allah will not enter hell-fire.
  4. Regret that we have fallen short in our duties towards Allah.
  5. Thinking about and fear about a bad end.
  6. Listening to lectures might soften our heart.

    SUBHANALLAH A VERY GOOD ARTICLE.

  2. Assalamualaikkum…!The 3rd point in the category of How to dry for the fear of Allah Think about our past sins and cry….!regarding that..isnt it that once we repent all our past sins are forgiven?so that we need not think and worry about it…and we are supposed to forget it and remind ourselves not to repeat it again..

  3. Walaiakum Assalam..

We cannot surely say that our past sins are forgiven. We need to be skeptic about it. Its only Allah who knows that our sins are forgiven or not. Yes we should always hope and keep praying to Allah for our sins to be forgiven.

So that’s the reason, why it is said that we need to think about our past sins and ask Allah to forgive us again and again. This shows how helpless we are, and it is only Allah who can forgive our sins.
