Qur’an can be your Intercessor

Abu Umama said he heard Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) say: Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. (Muslim)

Why then do we feel lazy to recite the Qur’an? And How do we overcome this?

Why do we feel lazy?

Some reasons and its cure:

Not realizing the miraculous power of the Qur’an – the last and final revelation – the handbook for humankind, which Allah Himself in his majesty has promised to preserve and protect.

Shaitan’s Whispers –  Shaitan makes us think we don’t have ‘time’ and that it can be kept for ‘another day’. Get out of that trap! Seek refuge in Allah from the shaitan’s whispers and MAKE TIME for Qur’an recitation. Remember: Making du’a alone does not help; rather, we need to take the necessary steps towards our goals in order for ALLAH to bless us in it.

Talk to the shaitan and go against the evil whispers that he puts inside of you. Remember that if you do this for a few days, Insha’Allah daily recitation will become your daily routine, because Shaitan will realize that he cannot mess with you anymore.

Don’t we make time for talking to friends, check facebook, etc? Push the puzzle pieces of to-dos around to make special space for Qur’an recitation even if it is just 5 minutes a day. Remember: Allah loves consistency in deeds. It is better to read 5 minutes of Qur’an everyday rather than reading 20 pages once in 3 months.

No knowledge of the Arabic language: Learn Arabic. In each step, Try to apply whatever little grammar rules you know to what you read of the Qur’an. This gives immense delight to the heart and Allah will make the path easier – insha Allah. Whatever little you read, follow up with the ‘translation’ and at least a section of its ‘tafseer’ depending on your schedule. Remember: When you recite Qur’an, Allah SWT is talking to you.

Not understanding the meaning of what is read  – What if your spouse gives you a love letter, which is written in a language that has an English script – You can read but can’t understand one word. Would you just read it and forget it or would you take the effort to find out the meaning? Then why is it that in the case of our Creator, we have the nerve to hear from Him without taking the effort to find out what He is saying to us?

Lack of knowledge of the rules of recitation – tajweed – Learning the Science of tajweed is in itself a wondrous joy and when you recite Qur’an with tajweed, it makes the recitation a true pleasure bi ithnillah. Remember: Incorrect recitation is highly discouraged, especially when there are loads of opportunities and access today to teachers and learning Tajweed.

Let us seek refuge in ALLAH from the accursed Shaytan and READ!
