The Fifth Supplication

“اللَّهُمَّ مَا أَصْبَحَ بِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ أَوْ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

فَمِنْكَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ”.

Allaahumma maa ‘asbaha bee min ni’matin ‘aw bi’ahadin min khalqika faminka wahdaka laa shareeka laka, falakal-hamdu wa lakash-shukru.

“O Allah, whatever blessing has been received by me or anyone of Your creation (1) is from You alone , You have no partner . All praise is for you and thanks is to You.

(1) When you say this in the evening, you should say: Allaahumma maa ‘amsaa bee…: “O Allah, as I… enter this evening…”

The status of this hadith

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Whoever recites this in the morning, has completed his obligation to thank Allah for that day; and whoever says it in the evening, has completed his obligation for that night.” (Abu Dawud)

Meaning and Beauty: The Ibadah (Worship) of Shukr (Thankfulness)

What are the virtues of being grateful to Allah?

  1. Allah praised the people of shukr. They are among the elites. Allah says:

“And few of my servants are grateful.” (Saba:13)

  2. Allah made shukr a reason for increase of His bounties and gifts. Allah says:

“And (remember) when Your Lord proclaimed, “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favour…” (Ibrahim:7)

Some scholars have said: “Whenever you do not see yourself in a state of increase, be grateful.”

  3. Allah has divided people into two groups:

People of Shukr and people of Kufr. Allah says:

“Verily, We have showed him the right path. He is either grateful or ungrateful.” (Al Insan: 3)

How can we benefit from this supplication?

Allah is the only source of every bounty or blessing. That is the essence of Tawheed ur Rububiyah (The Lordship of Allah)

It should boost our reliance on Allah and help us achieve the freedom of our souls.

Tawheed ur Rububiyah is the best cure for the following problems:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Low self-esteem
  • Fear of rejection
  • Fear of public speaking
  • Social anxiety
  • Showing off
  • and many more…

The root of all of these problems is a deeply embedded belief that our happiness or self-worth comes from the outside. It comes from what people think of me. My sense of security is related to how other people perceive me.

Tawheed ur Rububiyah tells you out loud: “They can not bring any benefit to you and they can not harm you in any way or shape.” Yor sense of security comes from inside, from your Iman and Tawheed. Your self-worth is derived from your identity as a Mu’min (believer). You have no reason; whatsoever to worry about their opinion.

Pondering the following hadith

Ibn Abbas (RA) said that he rode the Prophet (SAW) camel while sitting behind him, and the Messenger of Allah said to him:

“Young man, I will teach you some words: Preserve (your obligations toward) Allah and He will preserve you. Guard (your obligations toward) Allah, and you will find Him on your side. When you ask, ask Allah. When you seek aid, seek it from Allah. And know, that if the entire nation got together to benefit you in some way, they could never benefit you at all except for that which Allah had already decreed for you. And, if they all got together to harm you in some way, they could do you no harm except for that which Allah had already decreed for you. The pens have been lifted, and the tablets have dried.” (Tirmidhi)

Think about this hadith and do not fear evil eye

Reflect on this verse

“Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy-none can withohold it; and whatever He withhold-none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” (Fatir:2)

What is the Best Treatment?

  1. Tawheed ur Rububiyah: The essence of this Tawheed is included in some beautiful verses, hadith and supplications.

We need to rehearse and recite these supplications on a daily basis, and reflect on their beautiful implications and meanings.

  2. The Fifth Supplication

Recite it every day to help us inculcate the feeling that it is only Allah who can bless us in this world.

  3. Du’a: The famous dua’ that says: “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, He has no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. Oh Allah, there is none who can withhold what You have given and none may give what You have withheld; and the might (political power, wealth or any means of strength) of a mighty person can not benefit him against You.” (Bukhari)

Recite this dua’ to strengthen our Tawheed and Relaiance on Allah.

These beautiful words are powerful agents of change.

The next Part 11 (a): The Fifth Supplication, shall be posted soon, Insha Allah..
