Listen to the Eight Supplication:
“O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and Your protection in this world and the next. O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness and Your protection in my religion, in my worldly affairs, in my family and in my wealth. O Allah, conceal my secrets and preserve me from anguish . O Allah , guard me from what is in front of me and behind me , from my left , and from my right , and from above me . I seek refuge in Your Greatness from being struck down from beneath me.” (To be recited once in the morning and once in the evening)
The Hadith of this Du’a
Ibn Umar (RA) said: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) used not to miss these supplications in the evening or in the morning.” (Ahmed)
Beauty of this Supplication
- It is one of the most comprehensive dua’s.
- It includes many aspects of our life.
- Forgiveness of our sins
- Well-being in this life and the next
- Protection of the family and wealth
- Concealment of our shortcomings and defects
- Security from worries, fears and phobias
- Protection from all harms and evils coming from any direction
Excellence of Asking for Allahs Protection
Al Abbas bin Abdul Mutalib (RA) said: I said ‘O Messenger of Allah! Teach me something that I should use in my dua.’ He said: Pray for Allah’s Protection from harm. Then I waited for a couple of days, and I came to him and said: “O Messenger of Allah! Teach me something that I should use in my duaa.” He said: ‘ O Abbas, Oh Uncle of the Messenger of Allah! Pray for Allah’s protection in this life and the next.” (Tirmidhi)
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) visisted a sick man who became very thin and extremely weak and said: “Didn’t you ask your Lord for protection from harm?” The man said: I used to ask Allah to punish me in this life with whatever punishment I am supposed to get in the Hereafter. So the Prophet said: Subhan Allah! You can not handle that. You should have said: “O Allah grant me good in this life and good in the Hereafter and protect me from the punishment of the Fire.” (Tirmidhi)
Conclusion: As a basic principle, a person should ask Allah for forgiveness and protection from harm in this worldly life and the Hereafter.
The Prophet said: “Ask Allah for forgiveness and protection from harm, for nothing granted to a person after certainity in faith is better than protection from harm.” (Tirmidhi)
It was narrated that some of the sahaba used to say: “I prefer to be given good and be thankful rather than to be tested and excercise patience.”
