The Supreme Mercy of The Ultimate Forgiver

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying, “If somebody commits a sin and then says, ‘O my Lord! I have sinned, please forgive me!’ and his Lord says, ‘My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sins).’ Then he remains without committing any sin for a while and then again commits another sin and says, ‘O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,’ and Allah says, ‘My slave has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven my slave (his sin). Then he remains without Committing any another sin for a while and then commits another sin (for the third time) and says, ‘O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me,’ and Allah says, ‘My slave has known that he has a Lord Who forgives sins and punishes for it I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sin), he can do whatever he likes.”  (Bukhari, 7025)

This hadith doesnt mean that we can keep committing sins and then repent to Allah. This hadith tells us that Allah is so merciful and he forgives us for the sins that we commit.

  1. Allahu Gafur ru raheem….Ever forgiving, and creations ever sinning,MAY ALLAH GRANTS US MAGFIRA.ameen

  2. What I feel is that the hadith tells us how merciful Allah is. There are many people who commit sins and don’t repent thinking that Allah will not forgive them, because they have committed many sins.

There are many people who do not even pray thinking that Allah might not accept their prayers because of the the sins they have done. They doubt Allah’s Mercy wont befall on them because of the burden of sins they carry.

In short, Do not Despair of Allah’s Mercy. If we commit any sins unknowingly or knowingly, never have a slightest doubt that Allah might not forgive us. Allah will forgive us if we have this firm faith, Insha Allah.

Just below are few more hadiths which talk about Allah’s Mercy.

The Messenger (saw) was quoted as saying, "When Allah created the universe, He made an obligation on Himself (recorded) in a document kept by Him: My mercy supersedes my wrath." (Muslim)

"O son of Adam, as long as you call on Me and ask of Me, I will forgive what you have done, and I will forgive what you have done, and I do not mind. O son of Adam, even if your sins reached the clouds and you asked My forgiveness, I will forgive you. O son of Adam, if you came to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and you met Me without giving Me partners, I will give you a similar amount of forgiveness." (Tirmidhi)

Prophet Mohammad (saw) informed his followers of this reality, saying, "If you do not commit sins and turn to Allah, seeking his forgiveness, He would have replaced you with another people who would sin, ask Allah’s forgiveness and He would forgive them." (Muslim)

He was also reported to have said, "Allah [created] mercy with one hundred parts, one of which was sent down upon the jinn, human beings and other living beings. It is out of this one part that they love each other, show kindness to each other and even the animals treat their offspring with affection. Allah has reserved the remaining ninety-nine parts of His true worshippers on the Day of Resurrection." (Muslim)

Say: "O ‘Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (39:53)

    "…And My Mercy embraces all things…" (7:156)

"God is enough for us! God will give us [whatever He wills] out of His bounty, and [will cause] His Apostle [to give us, too]: verily, unto God alone do we turn with hope!" (9:59)

"… and do not lose hope of God’s life-giving mercy: verily, none but people who deny the truth can ever lose hope of God’s life-giving mercy."(12:87)

"And do not do mischief on the earth, after it has been set in order, and invoke Him with fear and hope; Surely, Allâh’s Mercy is (ever) near unto the good-doers." (7:56)

  3. Absolutely… the message is crystal clear…
    Allah the Most Merciful

  4. Thank you this very reassuring hadith.

  5. mashAllah it’s so beautiful. we commit sin but at the time of asking forgiveness shaitan tricks us, and make us avoid asking forgiveness by putting waswasas . Here we go actually wrong . InshAllah with ur above Hadith ,let Allah guide us to the straight path .Ameen
